Music for Wind Quintet
After more than thirty years the Dulcian Wind Quintet have retired from playing. We still see each other in orchestras in the region but we are no longer taking bookings. Thanks to all our listeners over the years - it's been wonderful.
As well as flautist with the Dulcian Wind Quintet, Alastair Roberts is principal flute with the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra and the Cheshire Sinfonia. He has appeared as soloist with a variety of orchestras in performances ranging from the flute concertos of Khachaturian, Nielsen and Jonathan Dove to those of Bach and Telemann. He is a founder member of the Telemann Baroque Ensemble.
Simon Beesley is much in
demand as a principal
oboe and as a soloist with
several orchestras in the
Northwest of England.
Geoffrey Smith is principal clarinet with Stockport and Wilmslow Symphony Orchestras and also Cheshire Sinfonia. He has appeared as soloist with these and other orchestras playing Concertos by Mozart, Weber, Krommer, Finzi and Spohr.
Alex Kane has played with several
orchestras in the northwest and
beyond. He performed Weber’s Bassoon Concerto on Radio 2’ “Listen To The Band” and the well known air and variation “Lucy Long” on “Friday Night is Music Night”
He has appeared as soloist with
several orchestras, most recently in
Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto.
Lawrence Yates freelances with several amateur and
professional orchestras in the northwest. He is a founder
member of the Diphtheria Horn Quartet for which he writes and arranges much of the music.
As well as the modern instrument, he also plays natural horn on which he has recently performed the Brahms Horn Trio and the Mozart Horn Quintet
